One of the best ways to develop greater knowledge of Islamic culture is to learn Arabic.
You can do this through Projects Abroad on an intensive, two week or month-long Language Project, where you will receive 15 hours of tuition each week.
Alternatively you can undertake a short, 14-hour course in Arabic which is scheduled alongside your main placement. If you are in the country volunteering for at least three months you could also complete a 60-hour language course alongside your volunteer placement.
While taking part in the Arabic Language Project you?ll be living in Rabat, an ancient but cosmopolitan city on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Rabat is the political and business capital of the country. Arabic is the official language of Morocco and is therefore widely spoken.
The Arabic classes are run by a qualified language tutor with the pace carefully tailored to suit your needs. Depending on when you arrive you may have the classes alone with the teacher or be in a small group with two or three other volunteers. You will be living with an Arabic-speaking Moroccan host family, who will encourage you to practise the language at home, while you experience their culture, community and customs.
After completing your Language Course Project you could then choose to volunteer on a Teaching or Care project in Morocco, and put your newly acquired language skills to use in a practical working environment.
