Teach English and Volunteer in Chile or Ecuador during your career break abroad

Ecuador is one of the smallest countries in South America yet it has an enormous biodiversity. Many people believe it is one of the easiest and most pleasant South American countries to travel in on your Career Break.

MondoChallenge offer 8 programmes in Ecuador; 4 in the Andes, in areas listed among the ten most biologically important in the world; 2 in the Central Highlands, tucked away in the 'Avenue of the Volcanoes' (known to be one of the most beautiful car journeys in the world); and 2 on the coast, around beautiful and touristic Puerto Lopez. Volunteers mainly work in public government schools, which receive barely any funding and therefore resources are in short supply and the pupils have little or no knowledge of English.

We offer teaching projects in La Serena region about 450kms north of Santiago. The Elqui Valley is known for its artistic communities, grapes and spirit of tranquillity. The region is the major producer of Pisco, Chile's national grape drink.

Our main teaching projects are in Pisco Elqui, Monte Grande and Paihuano. The region enjoys one of the nicest climates in the country as it hardly rains, but it can get cold in winter, particularly at night.

We work mainly in three primary schools, welcoming pupils aged from 4 to 14 in rural villages in the area.

In addition there is currently a thrust to provide a voluntary English support service to all the schools in the Comuna, including 6 small rural schools, scattered along the valley.
