Teach and volunteer with kids in care home in Romania with GapGuru!

Why should you go to Romania? The straight answer is because it is one of the most beautiful countries of Southeast Europe. If you don’t have months to spare, do not want to travel too far, Romania is the place for you. From projects for 2 weeks to 2 months, you could volunteer here either for your gap year or summer break. It has remnants of rustic Europe charm. Even in cities where you will find cars racing down the streets, you will almost anywhere find horse drawn buggies, green mountains, cone shaped haystacks and herds of sheep that bounce along.

Volunteers can choose to work in care homes to take care of children. We are working mainly with Hungarian and Czango ethnic groups who have preserved their unique traditions from medieval ages. Working in partnership with a local Foundation, volunteers are targeting their efforts at some of the poorest and most vulnerable sections of society. These include orphaned and abandoned children and young adults who live in care homes in the absence of their own families. The goal here is to create supportive and familiar homes for them, while encouraging them to make to most of often limited educational opportunities to improve their futures.

There is also the opportunity to volunteer in a nursery school which works to provide a fun learning environment for children. The school often lacks teachers and they are stretched to managing multiple subjects and classes. There is also a secondary school where older children in the age group of 7-19 study. This forms an alternate area for volunteering, where you can help build knowledge in various subjects
